The PSALM Salon is reminiscent of the old world artistic salons where the cultural illuminati would gather to support the work of leading artists in a comfortable residential setting, generally the homes of their principal patrons. The PSALM Salon is a modern update of this concept, integrating the increasingly popular "house concert" phenomenon with a fully appointed professional mini-theater... all in a stately Overbrook Farms mansion, home to PSALM Chairman, Jamey Reilly. This 60 seat venue produces over 70 shows annually featuring artistic performances by some of the world's leading lights in the performing arts. The combination of such intimacy and warmth with high end equipment in a pristine listening environment always produces events of singular depth and beauty. The PSALM Salon is produced by the Philadelphia Society for Art, Literature & Music, a non-profit charitable organization devoted to using the beauty of art as the doorway to the heart, promoting intercultural dialogue and understanding.
The PSALM Salon presents music, dance, theater and spoken word performance from around the world in 3 month long Spring and Fall Performance Series, with off-season events as well. Performing artists may submit portfolios of their work for consideration at any time. Admission prices are between *10 and *20 and include light refreshments, BYO is welcomed.
The PSALM Salon has been called the best small listening room in Philadelphia.
"One of Philadelphia's most welcoming and intimate venues in a gorgeous old house in Overbrook Farms.
Going to PSALM has all the virtues of a house concert with a sound sytsem worthy of a club,
inspired booking, and plenty of street parking!"
*** Michaela Majoun, WXPN Morning Show Host
"...the PSALM, where artists conduct and discuss their work
in a seemingly nondenominational spiritual space.
The twinkle of burning candles in Depression glass, the scent of sandalwood: It's all here."
*** A. D. Amorosi, The Philadelphia Inquirer
"Congrats on a beautiful, intimate, warm and sweet space for music to emerge, inspire and uplift.
Great sound system and first rate performers. I loved the spirit. Just wonderful."
*** Andrea Clearfield, composer and pianist; Andrea's Music Salon
